I'm sure you are all aware of the devastating earthquake that has hit Haiti. The news from there seems to get worse by the minute. You may not know that your local Habitat affiliate is a "sister affiliate" with the Haiti affiliate. Part of being a Habitat affiliate means "tithing" a percentage of our local revenue to Habitat for Humanity International, which is then transferred to help projects in other parts of the world. Over the last few years the Haiti affiliate has been the Sauk-Columbia affiliate's designated tithe recipient.
We have received letters over the years from the Haiti affiliate describing the great work they are doing and how our resources have helped them in that work.
We have not heard about the status of the affiliate staff there. We do know that one of the major needs in this crisis will be to provide shelter for those who were affected. Habitat for Humanity International is helping coordinate that effort, and has asked local affiliates, including ours, to help them. Attached is some information we received earlier yesterday.
You can go to http://www.hfhsca.org and click on the Donate button. Add in the "special instructions" section when you get to that point that you want your donation directed toward the Haiti effort.
You can also send donations through the mail to:
HFHSCA • 1906 North Street • Prairie du Sac, WI 53578
Be sure to add a note or write on the memo portion of your check that the donation should go toward the Haiti relief effort.
Most of all, keep the people of Haiti in your prayers.
Thank you
